癏ow do you account_for your remarkable achievements in life?”Queen Victoria of the UK asked Helen Keller.“How do you explain the fact that even though you were both blind and deaf, you were able to achieve so much?”Ms.Kellers answer is a tribute(致敬)to her kind teacher.“If it had not been for Anne Sullivan, the name of Helen Keller would have remained unknown.”According to American speaker Zig Ziglar,Anne Sullivan was no stranger to hardship. She was almost sightless and was,at one time, diagnosed as hopelessly“insane” by her caregivers. She was locked in the basement of a mental institution.Occasionally,Anne would violently attack anyone who came near. Most of the time she generally ignored everyone in her presence. An elderly nurse believed there was hope, however, and she made it her work to show love to the child.Every day she visited Anne, and she left cookies for her and spoke words of love and encouragement. She believed Anne could recover,if only she were shown love.Eventually, doctors noticed the change in the girl.Where they once witnessed anger and hate, they now noted gentleness and love. They moved her upstairs where she continued to improve. Then the day finally came when this seemingly “hopeless”child was released.Anne Sullivan grew into a young woman with a desire to help others as she, herself, was helped by the kind nurse. It was she who saw the great potential in Helen Keller. She loved her, disciplined(管教)her, played with her, pushed her and worked with her until the flickering candle that was her life became a beacon(燈塔)of light to the world.Anne Sullivan worked wonders in Helens life;but it was a loving nurse who first believed in little Anne and lovingly transformed an uncommunicative child into a kind teacher.“If it had not been for Anne Sullivan, the name of Helen Keller would have remained unknown.”But if it had not been for a kind and dedicated nurse, the name of Anne Sullivan would have remained unknown.1What does the underlined part“account for”in Paragraph 1 probably mean?AshowBproveCexplain Dpresent2What do we know from the third paragraph?AAnne Sullivan had very normal behavior.BAnne Sullivan was ignored by everyone.CAnne Sullivan was kept away from her parents.DAnne Sullivan was believed to have a mental problem.3What would be the best title for the text?AThe Power of LoveBMaking a DifferenceCA Good TeacherDRemarkable Achievements【解題導(dǎo)語】本文主要介紹了一個有奉獻(xiàn)精神的護(hù)士用自己的愛挽救了海倫凱勒的老師Anne Sullivan,而她又成就了偉大的海倫凱勒的故事。 Anne Sullivan worked wonders in Helens life;but it was a loving nurse who first believed in little Anne and lovingly transformed an uncommunicative child into a kind teacher.分析:本句中it was.who.是強(qiáng)調(diào)句,強(qiáng)調(diào)的部分是“a loving nurse” ,o. 根據(jù)第一段最后一句“How do you explain the fact that even though you were both blind and deaf, you were able to achieve so much?”,并結(jié)合第一句的語境可推知,account for與explain同義,故選C。 根據(jù)第三段第二句和第三句“She was almost sightless and was,at one time, diagnosed as hopelesslyinsaneby her caregivers. She was locked in the basement of a mental institution”,并結(jié)合對本段的整體理解可推知,當(dāng)時人們認(rèn)為Anne Sullivan患有精神疾病,故選D。A項表示Anne Sullivan的行為非常正常,這與第三段倒數(shù)第二句“Occasionally, Anne would violently attack anyone who came near”相悖;B項表示Anne Sullivan被大家都忽略了,這與下文中提到的護(hù)士對她的關(guān)愛不符;C項表示Anne Sullivan遠(yuǎn)離她的父母,文章中并沒有提到,故排除。 (2017四川綿陽高中診斷性考試)Many teachers believe that handson the bottom of表示“在的底部”,故用at。 a set of表示“一系列”,故用a。 up to表示“達(dá)到”,故用to。 from beginning to end表示“從頭到尾”。 I am grateful to my English teacher Susan, at whose help I couldnt have won first prize in the English Talent Competition for high school student last But backslap(拍背) someone who isnt a family member or a good friend in Korea, and youll make them uncomfortable. In Thailand, the head is considered sacrednever even pat a child on the head.Talking over DinnerIn some countries, like China, Japan and some African nations, the food is the thing, so dont start chatting about your days adventures while everyone else is digging into dinner.3_ Its not because your group is unfriendly, but because mealtimes are for eating, not talking.Removing Your Shoes or NotTake off your shoes when arriving at the door of a London dinner party and the hostess will find you uncivilized, but fail to remove your shoes before entering a home in Asia, Hawaii, or the Pacific Islands and youll be considered disrespectful. So, if you see a row of shoes at the door, start undoing your laces. 4._ Once you are on the ground of a different country, remain highly sensitive to native behavior. 5._ And dont feel offended if something seems offensivelike queue jumping. After all, this is a global village, and we are all very different.APersonal space varies as you travel the globe.BAsians consider removing shoes impolite at home.CNever be completely surprised by anything.DThe linguistic mistake means that someone is not fully expressing his idea.ELook out for the following cultural mistakes and try to avoid them.FIf not, keep the shoes on.GYoull likely be met with silence.【解題導(dǎo)語】本文是一篇說明文,講述了一些出國旅游時應(yīng)當(dāng)注意的文化上的錯誤。 故選A項。 5C解析:從空后的“And dont .like queue jumping.”
