His novel in verse (詩體) The Crossover won the Newbery Medal in 2015, and was followed by another verse novel in 2016, Booked. In the justreleased The Playbook: 52 Rules to Aim, Shoot, and Score in This Game Called Life, Alexander aims to inspire readers to dream big and reach for their goals.Time For Kids:What can you tell us about The Playbook?Kwame Alexander:I wanted to write a book about how important it is to persevere (堅(jiān)持) and accept the challenges that come, because they only make you stronger. And I wanted to do it in a really cool and fun way, using sports as a metaphor (隱喻), so students would be interested in reading a book that is telling them how to make their lives better.TFK:Where did you get the idea for the book?Alexander:In The Crossover, the father of the main characters, Josh and Jordan, gives them these rules for life, called Basketball Rules. Well, I was having breakfast with a friend of mine in New York City. He said,“Kwame, I love those Basketball Rules you have in The Crossover. You should think about writing a whole book on those.” Thats where it all began.TFK:Is it hard to mix sports and poetry (詩歌)?Alexander:I love sports, and Ive been writing poetry since I was a kid. So those two things are as natural to me as breathing, laughing and walking.TFK:Youve said teachers need to make learning poetry fun. Did you have a teacher like this as a kid?Alexander:My mom. She read poetry to my sisters and me when I was a kid, and she would make the words jump off the page!TFK:What advice would you give to young writers?Alexander:Read everything you can get your hands on. The best way to become a good writer is to read what other people have written.1What can we learn about The Playbook?AIt is a historical novel.BIt won the Newbery Medal.CIt is actually about rules for life.DIt is based on Alexanders true life. 由The Playbook的副標(biāo)題“52 Rules to Aim, Shoot, and Score in This Game Called Life”和文中Alexander解釋寫這本書的目的“a book that is telling them how to make their lives better”可知,The Playbook是一本關(guān)于人生法則的書。2Who inspired Alexander to write The Playbook?AHis mom who read poetry to him.BThe teacher who taught him poetry.CHis friend who read The Crossover.DThe two characters in The Crossover. 由文中的“a friend of mine . think about writing a whole book on those.” The Playbook。3When Alexander was a kid, how did he feel about poetry?AIt was rather boring.BIt was quite difficult.CIt was pretty mysterious.DIt was very interesting. 由文中的“Ive been writing poetry since I was a kid”和“My mom . would make the words jump off the page”可知,小時(shí)候常常給Alexander 讀詩歌的媽媽能使那些詩詞躍然紙上,由此推測在媽媽的影響下,從小就喜歡寫詩的Alexander覺得詩歌很有意思。4In Alexanders mind, whats important to become a good writer?AAlways dream big.BGladly accept challenges.CRead as much as possible.DHave a wide knowledge of poetry. 由最后一部分Alexander給那些想成為優(yōu)秀作家的年輕人的建議“Read everything you can get your hands on ”可知。BRobert Frost (18741963) is one of Americas most beloved poets. He was a contemporary of many modernist poetic movements, but he wasnt associated (與有聯(lián)系) with any particular group of poets. He stuck to his own literary beliefs, and as a result, he attracted a good deal of criticism from the literary world. But, it is just because he was such a person and his voice was so original that Frost became so beloved. If you are to choose one of his poems and read it aloud on a busy street, we are sure that many people will recognize the poem immediately as Frosts.Mending Wall, which is the first poem in North of Boston, Frosts second book of poetry, is one of his most popular poems. It is a poem about two neighbors who fix a rock wall that lies between their homes. “I” want to destroy the wall, and the “neighbor” wants to leave it standing. We just cant get enough of walls, can we? People love boundaries (界線). We love them when were little, protecting our precious toys from our troublesome (令人煩惱的) brothers and sisters. As we get older, we begin to throw around the gentle term “personal space”, as in “GET OUT OF MY ROOM!” In college, we really learn how the idea of “My house is your house” doesnt always result in happy roommate relationships. After we become adults with good jobs and a lot of cool things, we often put up fences, gates, walls, or doors to protect our stuff and keep the peace.Walls help us protect ourselves, but their downside is that they often keep people from communicating with each other. Mending Wall makes us take a look at how we use our walls and boundaries, and why we use them the way we do. This poem sends a wakeup call to the universe. There are walls between our hearts. 5What can we learn about Robert Frost?AHis writing style is special.BHis first poem is about life.CHe often criticized other poets.DHe joined many poetic movements. 由第一段末“If you are to .as Frosts.” 6In Paragraph 3, what does the author want to show?ASharing with others brings us happiness.BThere seem lots of walls in our life.CWalls let people know about themselves.DPersonal space is important to everyone. 7The third paragraph is developed _.Aby spaceBby exampleCby timeDby comparison解析:選C寫作手法題。 8The authors purpose in writing the text is to _.AinformBpersuadeCdescribeDanalyze解析:選D寫作意圖題。 How to Improve Vocabulary FastYour vocabulary refers to the words in a language you are familiar with.
