They tried to forget about the past and ignore the future. The U.

In this decade, America became the wealthiest country in the world, but the people at that time were full of desperation and they had no objects in their lives.一、The USA in 1920s美國(guó)整體背景 19世紀(jì)20年代的美國(guó)人

3、迫不及待的享樂(lè),他們想忘記過(guò)去,無(wú)視未來(lái)。一戰(zhàn)后,美國(guó)傳統(tǒng)的價(jià)值觀、思想觀和政治理念都經(jīng)歷了悲劇性的失敗。雖然表面上是美國(guó)繁榮富足的十年,但這個(gè)時(shí)期的人卻是前所未有的絕望,生活沒(méi)有目標(biāo)。二、Striking gap between the rich and the poor貧富差距貧富差距 Tom represented the old noblesse(舊貴族階級(jí)) of the U.S., and Wilson represented the poor class. Wilson was the owner of an auto repair shop, which was dusty a

The comparison of Tom and Wilson is actually the comparison of the rich class and the poor class.二、Striking gap between the rich and the poor貧富差距貧富差距 Tom代表了美國(guó)的舊貴族階級(jí),Wilson代表了美國(guó)的貧窮階級(jí)。Wilson開著一家汽車修理鋪,鋪?zhàn)永锘颐擅傻?,很是凌亂。Tom與Wilson的對(duì)比其實(shí)就是美國(guó)富人階級(jí)與窮人階級(jí)之間的對(duì)比,貧富差距很嚴(yán)重。三、Money worship拜金主義拜金主義 Tom was v

5、ery keen on visiting places of ill fame. He has never been satisfied, although he has married pretty Daisy. Daisy knew that Tom was not faithful to her, but she was eager for his property. So, she just kept the unhappy marriage. By the views of Nick, it reflected the phenomenon of flourishing of the
