travelaroundtheworldwithoutmuchtrouble.ButtheEnglishlanguageisfirstanational

NowletmeintroducetoyouthebriefhistoryoftheEnglishlanguage:

EnglishisamemberoftheIndo-Europeanfamily,adescendantoftheGermanicbranch.It

belongstothesmallerfamilyofwesternGermaniclanguages.ThefirstEnglish-speakingpeople

weresomeGennanictribesfromtheNorthernEuropeancontinent,mainlytheAngles,Saxons,

andJutesintoday'ssouthernDenmark.ThesetribesfinishedtheirconquestoftheBritishIslesin

449.Sothemid5cccanbeseenasaformalstartofthelanguageandtheBritishpeople.
