Introduction

Aneventofahumancaseinfectedwithaninfluenzavirusderivingfromananimalsourceshouldbereportedwithin24hourstotheEarlyWarningandResponseSystem(EWRS)whichwillcoverthe

InternationalHealthRegulations(IHR)notificationforEU/EEAcountries.Tocomplementtheevent-basedsurveillance,TESSyreportingallowsforalong-termcollectionofkeyindicators.DatatoTESSycanbeuploadedretrospectivelywhenmoreinformationbecomesavailablebutshouldbedoneas

soonasfeasibletoavoidmajorreportingdelays.

Thisreportingprotocoldescribesdatacollectionforzoonoticinfluenzaviruses.Withthedatacollected,theaimistosupportsituationalriskassessmentandtrendsovertime.

Forthereportingofcase-baseddata,therecordtypeINFLZOOshouldbeused.Case-baseddataisthepreferentialrecordtypeforreportingconfirmedcasestoTESSy.Aggregatedataonzoonotic

influenza(numberoftestedsamplesandnumberofdetectedcasesbyNAandHAsubtype)canbeuploadedtoINFLZOOAGGR.Thisrecordtypeshouldideallybeusedmainlyforreportedtestingdata.Ifacountryisnotabletoreporttothecase-basedrecordtypeabove,thennumeratordatacanalsobereportedtothisrecordtype.

Deadlineforreporting:

Aneventofahumaninfectionwithzoonoticinfluenzavirusshouldbereportedwithin24hoursto

EWRS,alsocoveringIHRforEU/EEAcountries.Ifasuspectedhumancaseisunderinvestigation,

suchinformationshouldbesharedviaEpiPulsewithECDCandothercountriesforawareness.Data

formonitoringtheeventandassessingtrendsshouldbereportedtoTESSyatleastinthesubsequentweekfollowingidentificationandconfirmation.

Preparingdata

DatamaybeentereddirectlyinTESSyforindividualrecords(‘Manuallycreatearecord’).Forany

batchreportingbyfileupload(CSVorXMLformat)pleasenotethatoncethedatahasbeenexportedfromyournationaldatabaseitneedstobeinaformatthatTESSycanaccept(see‘checking

metadata’).
