1、說課稿unit3 under the sea曲沃二中 徐靜靜I. About the teaching material My teaching material is A New Dimension of Life, which is the "Reading and discussing" part in Unit 3, Module 7 by Peoples Educational Publishing House. The topic of the unit is “under the sea”. All the activities are about the p
2、lants and animals under the sea, the amazing view under the sea, and the tales about the sea. In Using language, the reading and other exercises are designed to help develop students comprehensive language competence. As is recognized by all, reading ability is one of the most important abilities th
3、at should be developed. It is also stated in the Curriculum that students at level 7 should be able to read and understand original texts and newspapers that have been adapted for senior middle school students. Still, students are required to describe their experiences in English at this level. Ther
4、efore, this period is designed as reading for writing. The reading A New Dimension of Life describes what the writer sees under the sea in a diary. After reading the text, students should learn some expressions the writer uses to express his/her feelings. At the end of the class, students should be
5、able to use these expressions to express their emotions.II. Teaching importance and difficulties 1. To help students express their emotions in English. 2. To help students develop Communicative strategies, metacognitive strategies, cognitive strategies and resource strategies. 3. To inspire students
6、 love for nature.III. About the students Students in No. 1 Middle School are good in accepting new language. But their comprehensive language competence still needs to be imporved, especially their reading skills and writing skills. This lesson is designed to help them develop their reading skills a
7、nd writing skills and other learning strategies.IV. Teaching aims: 1. Language knowledge and skills: 1.1 To learn some words and expressions about life under the sea.(Step 1 and Step 2) 1.2 To learn to talk about topics concerning the sea.(Step 1 and Step 5) 1.3 To learn to express their emotions us
8、ing the following expressions (Step 4) a day of pure magic 。It was the most fantastic thing I have ever done.Every cell in my body woke up.It was like discovering a whole new dimension of life.feel scared to deathI thought I was very brave.My heart was beating wildly. What a wonderful, limitless wor
9、ld it was down there! And what a tiny spot I was in this enormous world. 1.4 To learn to obtain useful information quickly.(Step 2, Step 3, and Step 4) 1.5 To learn to write down their experiences and emotions using the language learned within this unit.(Step 6) 2. Learning strategies 2.1 Cognitive
10、strategy: Learn more adjectives and adverbs to express their emotions through the reading.(Step 2 and Step 4) 2.2 Metacognitive strategies: Learn to choose different reading skills for different purposes. Learn to adjust reading skills while reading. (Step 2, Step 3, and Step 4) 2.3 Communicative st
11、rategy: Learn to communicate emotions in English to improve communicating skills.(Step 5) 2.4 Resource strategies: Learn to use the internet to get relevant information; learn to make use of the library. (Step 7) 3. Attitude to learning: 3.1 Get the students to know learning material and aims, so th
12、at their interest and enthusiasm will be inspired.(Step 1) 3.2 Encourage the students to discover the beauty of nature and inspire their love for nature.(Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3) 3.3 Learn to share experiences and emotions.(Step 5 and Step 6)V. Teaching approaches and techniques: According to NEW
13、 ENLGISH CURRICULUM FOR CHINESE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, and the characteristics of this teaching material, tasked-based langage teaching approach is employed. In order to fullfill all the aims of this teaching design, multi-media techniques are necessary, including a computer, an over-head projector, an
14、d a screen.VI. Teaching procedure Step 1. Lead-in(3minutes) This step is designed to arise students' interest in the topic. Learning words and expressions about life under the sea is also included in the step.Show the students a picture of me snorkeling in Sanya. Then raise two questions: 1) Wha
15、t am I doing? (Snorkeling) 2) What can I see under the sea? Write down any word students think of on the blackboard. Then say to the students: Do you really want to know what I can under the sea? Step 2. Scanning(4minutes) Students' reading skill of scanning will be developed in this step.Get th
16、e students to scan the text, and find out the answers to the following questions: 1) How many creatures are mentioned in this diary?(11) 2) What are they? Write down on the blackboard the words students have thought of. At the end of this step, show students the correct answers on the screen. Step 3
17、. Skimming(5minutes) Students' reading skill of skimming will be developed in this step. Get the students to skim the text, and find out the topic of each paragraph. Step 4. Careful reading(15minutes) In this step, students should read carefully for useful expressions.Let the students read the t
18、ext more carefully, and find out all the expressions the writer uses to describe his feelings.At the end of this step, show the expressions on the screen. a day of pure magic.It was the most fantastic thing I have ever done. Step 5. Communication: (5minutes) This step consolidates what students have learned in Step 2 and Step 4. Communicating skills are involved in this step. Therefore, students will learn to communicate and share experiences and emotions. Get students to tell their partners what they will see and how they will feel if you go snorkeling under the sea. Step 6. Writing (12minutes)
