Chargingcircuitinterruptiondevice(CCID),asdefinedintheTri-NationalEVSESafetyStandards.ACCIDinterruptsthechargingcircuitifdifferentialcurrentexceedsathreshold,usually20mAforpermanentlywiredinstallations.ACandDCthresholdsarespecified,andautomaticreclosureisallowedundercertainconditions.ContrasttoUL943forgroundfaultcircuitinterrupters,whichprovidesimilarprotectionsatdifferentlevels.
CHARGER
Anelectricaldevicethatconvertsalternatingcurrentenergytoregulateddirectcurrentforreplenishingtheenergyofarechargeableenergystoragedevice(i.e.,battery)andmayalsoprovideenergyforoperatingothervehicleelectricalsystems.See

Ahand-heldconductivedeviceattheendofaflexiblecablefromtheEVSE,whichisinsertedintotheEVinlettochargethebattery.

AconductiveelementinaconnectorthatmateswithacorrespondingelementintheEVinlettoprovideanelectricalpath.
CONTROLPILOT(CP)
AnelectricalsignalthatissourcedbytheEVSE,controlledbytheEVandtheEVSE,andusedforthefollowingfunctions:(a)verifiesthattheEVandEVSEarepresentandconnected,(b)controlsenergization/de-energizationofthepowertransferinterface,(c)transmitsoperatingparametersandconstraintsbetweenEVSEandEV,and(d)monitorsthepresenceoftheequipmentground.
CONTROLSEQUENCE
AsequenceofautomatedtasksperformedbytheEVandtheEVSEduringaconnectionsessionforthepurposeofchargingtheEV.Anewcontrolsequenceoccursafterarestart.
COUPLER
AphysicalandelectricalmatingsystemconnectingtheEVSEtotheEV.ThecouplerincludestheconnectorattheendoftheflexiblecablefromtheEVSEsideandtheinletontheEV.

AdeviceresponsibleforsafelyprovidingpowertotheEVthroughtheuseofcertaincontrolfunctionswhicharedefinedinthisdocumentandislistedaccordingtotheTri-NationalACEVSEStandard.Itmaybepermanentlywiredorconnectedviaacordtothepremiseswiring.TosupplytheEV,itmayhaveapermanentlyattachedconnectororanEVSEsocket-outlet(see
