In2002,scientistsattheUniversityofAthensinGreececonductedasurveyofover35.000

peoplein10countriesaroundiheworld,includingChina,BelgiumandSouthAfrica.Ofthe

peoplethatrespondedtothesurvey,24percentsaidthattheydidnotsleepwell,andbasedontheir

responses,31.6percentwerediagnosedwithinsomniaandanother17.5percentwerediagnosed

withborderlineinsomnia(失眠).

Inaddition,30.7percentofsurveyrespondentsreportedvisitingadoctorforhelpwithsleep

problemsand11.6percentsaidthattheyfeltverysleepyduringtheday.

Overall,thesurveyfoundthatmanypeoplesuffertheeffectsofpoorqualitysleep,some

examplesofwhicharebeingunabletofallasleepandwakingupinthemiddleofthenight.The

mainfactorscausingtheseproblemsarepressurefromschoolorworkandafastpaceoflife,bul

noisepollutionandlightpollutionalsointerferewithsleepandccntribuletopoorqualitysleep.

Thesurvey'sfindingsarcparticularlytroublingbecauselargenumbersofpeoplewerefoundio

havedifficultysleepingatnight.Theshort-tenneffectsofthisaretirednessandtrouble
