To meet the needs of a growing world for exial-economic development , environmental impmvement , and sustainable development though poplar plantation establishment ie a main re- search interest in the globe. Thi8 paper intmduced the regionalizing cultivation , key planting clonca , and producHvities of poplar plantations in China, and summarized the recent 10 yeara re- search progress in China in the site quality evaluation , seedling propagation techniques , manage- ment patterns , mixed plantation establishment , agroforestry management system , water and nutrient management techniques , site productivity maintenance , and ecological functions of poplar planta- tion. The potential producHvity , geneml allocation , oriented 8ilviculture , and environmental func- tion study of poplar plantation were also discussed and prospected.
