Uncle John didnt answer the door. So I used his back yard and I found him lying on the bathroom floor. I cannot wake him up.” Tom called the doctor immediately and then rushed to Uncle Johns house. When he got there, the doctor had already arrived. The doctor said that he was just in time to save him. Key:Uncle John lived alone at the age of eighty-five and the only person he contacted was his nephew Tom. Tom usually called his uncle to say hello to him and check if everything was OK. One day, Uncle John didnt answer Toms phone. Tom then went back to work and then called again. But there was still no answer. After three calls and no answer, Tom was anxious and asked Johns neighbor to see what happened. After a while, the neighbor told Tom that Uncle John was found lying on the bathroom floor. The neighbor couldnt even wake him up. Tom called the doctor for help immediately and went to Uncle Johns house. He thought: “well, I have to be here for the weekend.” Suddenly he remembered that in reception room there was a phone which was always on. So he rushed to the reception room. The room was locked too. So he went into the room through the window and phoned the door keeper. Half an hour later, the doorkeeper came and Tom went home. Key:Tom worked for a big company in a small and remote office last summer vacation. One Friday afternoon when he finished work and was about to go back, he found himself locked in the building. His colleagues had all gone back. He then tried to phone the doorkeeper, but the phones didnt work because they were switched off for the weekends. Suddenly he remembered a phone in the reception room which was always on. Although the reception room was locked, he climbed through the window and succeeded in phoning the doorkeeper. He said to Tom excitedly, “Ive just written an introduction for one of your papers, read it so that we can get it published.” For a minute, Tom had no idea what he was talking about. Tom was later told that two problems he copied down as homework were two famous maths problems that have never been worked out. For the first time, Tom realized that the two problems have something special in them. Key:Tom was a university student. One day, he was late for professor Browns class. He then copied down two maths problems on the blackboard which he thought as the homework. A few days later, Tom handed in the paper to Professor Brown and apologized for his delay. He told Tom that Tom had worked out the problems that had never been worked out.
